MPS Wins Coveted Award in Mexico

Single Cane Rum

Multi Packaging Solutions (“MPS”), part of WestRock and a global leader in value-added print and packaging solutions for the healthcare, branded consumer and multi-media markets, has recently won a coveted ‘Stellar Award’ at Expo Pack Guadalajara, held in Mexico. This award ceremony is held in conjunction with the region’s largest packaging related exhibition which attracts over 15,000 attendees.

Stellar Award at Expo Pack

The Stellar Award was presented for a striking pack produced by MPS Dallas for Bacardi’s Worthy Park Estate brand of rum. Leon Hill, Senior Account Executive, Global Projects Team, at MPS, said: “We’re delighted to be presented with this prestigious award which is a credit to all our employees. The MPS Chicago and Dallas team worked closely with Bacardi to ensure that the packaging for this range conveyed a super-premium impression. A folding carton with an inner corrugated liner was used to replicate a high quality rigid box. The carton was then embellished with a textured screen printed pattern that provided a hint of wood grain as well as a rustic effect.  A tactile quality was accentuated by detailed micro-embossing over hot foil stamping to generate eye-catching light reflections.”

The quality of the pack reflects Bacardi’s desire to launch a new range of rums that with an artisan quality to achieve the same product positioning as a single malt whisky within the travel retail sector. The Bacardi’s Single Cane Estate Rums comprise two variants: Worthy Park Estate from Jamaica and Consuelo Estate from Dominican Republic. Both are distinctive premium aged rums from exceptional sugarcane estates across the Americas. Each rum is crafted entirely at a single source in small batches and each expression is unique capturing the character of its home.

MPS conducted multiple print trials and its in-house design and high quality samples all contributed to the pack’s development. It was essential to find a graphic treatment that allowed the pack’s complex texture, graphics, embossing and hot stamp elements to work in a compatible manner and within budget. Following multiple tests of different boards and finishing techniques a Kraft color flood coated SBS board was selected that ideally complements the pack’s deboss, emboss, hot foil stamping and screen printed textured rough wood grain coating. The packs are delivered to Bacardi Mexico for fulfilment. This is an elegant example of cooperative effort with MPS  USA Manufacturing, Sales and Design, and local Mexico MPS sales, Lola Moreno.
